About Lanopolis

How did Lanopolis start?

To fulfill our social mandate, the University of Ottawa Computer Club started out hosting LAN parties (Lanopolis) for members of the club and students of the university and surrounding community. What started out as a social gathering, turned out to be an ever-demanding LAN community success.

With a growing community presence, it is no wonder that sponsors such as (Corsair, ATI, Thermaltake, NVIDIA, D-Link, Icemat, Alienware, RedBull, PC Cyber, Global Mart, and others) have acknowledged our popularity and future LAN party potential. To this day, Lanopolis has become Ottawa's fastest growing LAN party event destination!

Our Success

The 1st LAN party hosted by our club was held on January 21st, 2006. This was a 12-hour event that attracted approximately 20 students from the university. Approximately 3 sponsors provided prizes for this event.

The 2nd LAN party hosted by our club was held on April 29th, 2006. This was a 24-hour event that attracted approximately 40 students from the university and surrounding community. Approximately 10 sponsors provided us with food and prizes for this event. In addition, the Ottawa Citizen featured this event in the "City" section of their newspaper (May 1, 2006; page D3)

Our 3rd LAN party hosted by our club was held on January 27th, 2007. This was a 24-hour event that attracted apporximately 60 students. We made this in the main GYM where everyone was comfortable! We had DDR and Guitar heroes as extra extra entertainment! We were featured on CTV News as well! Approximately 15 sponsors sponsored that event.

Overall, we beleive we have expanded. We began in a small room and with a small crowd, but now we are expanding our resources to gather a much larger crowd, and thanks for all the staff and volunteer to make this a fun non-profit LAN extremely FUN!
