Hey everyone,
This is a big deal if you want to play any of your STEAM games at the LAN, because we are not playing over the Internet, we are playing on the LAN! (In addition, Internet access will only be available wirelessly, and connecting to it will disconnect you from the LAN)
The servers will be updated on Friday, October 12th, 2007 : 4:00PM, before the LAN. You must do the following as close to this date/time as possible or else you may not be able to play!
Follow the instructions carefully:
================================================
1. If you own ALL of the STEAM games required for LAN
================================================
Ensure that ALL GAMES are ready for offline play.
1. With a connection to the Internet, login to your STEAM account.
2. Ensure all games are "Ready to play".
: (Test each one, and ensure they open. Seriously. It updates something internally.)
3. Close STEAM, and disconnect from your Internet.
4. Open STEAM, and wait for it to "timeout".
5. Click "Start in Offline Mode".
6. Test each game again and ensure each one opens in Offline Mode.
7. Finally, if the games tested successfully, as an extra precaution, browse to your STEAM installation directory (ie: C:\Program Files\Steam\), copy the following 2 files; AppUpdateStats.blob & ClientRegistry.blob to your desktop. These two files might be useful if something goes wrong when you get to the LAN.
Configure all video/sound/controls in the game(s).
NOTE: In order for OFFLINE MODE to work, the "Remember Password" box must be checked.
Once at the LAN, the only way STEAM will work is in offline mode because there will be no Internet connection. If you connect to the wireless network, you can open steam but you won't see any of the LAN games where everyone will be playing. Besides, who wants lag?
=================================================
2. If you own SOME of the STEAM games required for LAN
=================================================
Follow the above instructions from 1.
You will not be able to play the games you do not own, but at least you can be sure the ones you do own will work!
=================================================
PLAY THE GAMES!!
(It's recommended that after you perform these instructions around 4:00PM on Friday, October 12th, 2007, that you should NOT open STEAM after this point in time until you're at the LAN.) - The reason for this is for obvious synchronization problems. Servers and gamers need to have the same versions of each game in order to be able to play, so updating around the same time is important.

This is Campus Interactive LAN Party "in association by University of Ottawa Computer Club and ...."
So of course you can attend! We are expecting people from Highschool, Colleges, many local Universities, and people from this community and elsewhere to attend! This what makes this LAN Party special! |

Here's my issue.
The account given to us for TF2 works and all. The only problem is that it does not have half-life, meaning we can't run any other Half life 1 mods if we do the whole offline thing on the TF2 account. Thoughts? |

| I haven't tested it yet, but I have an idea. Log in each of your Steam accounts prior to the LAN party, and backup the "ClientRegistry.blob" file located in the Steam install folder, each time. Once at the lan, swap them before launching Steam, depending on which account you want to have in Offline mode. |

| So are we doomed if we couldn't stop playing TF2 past 4? Anyone know if it updated? |
